With a shortened 48 game NHL season, big name trades are going to happen quickly. Stephen Weiss is the number one center for the Florida Panthers and is going to be moved within the next month. Weiss is a solid play maker and goal scorer, tallying 57 points in 80 games last season. He has a contract that is expiring for a $3.1 million cap hit.
The Panthers are struggling financially and cannot afford to pay Weiss the raise that he is going to demand. GM Dale Tallon is fielding offers from many teams who are interested in upgrading their center. He is going to move Weiss in advance of the April 3rd trade deadline.
The Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals are teams that are in competition for Stephen Weiss.
