According to Pierre LeBrun on Insider Trading, the LA Kings' offseason plan is to trade Jonathan Bernier. GM Dean Lombardi spoke with 10 NHL teams about the trade. A deal is going to be done soon, possibly before the draft at the end of June.

Bernier played backup goaltender to Jonathan Quick and is looking to land his first starting role. Bernier is an unproven starter but demands a decent return. The 24 year old is a top young goalie prospect. As a restricted free agent, he can be secured on better terms than most veteran goalies. He was drafted 11th overall so he is not going to be dealt for a 2nd round pick or less.

The going rate for Bernier is a first round draft pick along with a decent prospect or roster player. The New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, Phoenix Coyotes, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames are the frontrunners for the Jonathan Bernier sweepstakes.
