David Clarkson Free Agent Frenzy 2013

David Clarkson of the New Jersey Devils is soon to test free agency on July 5. The 2011-2012 season was Clarkson's best when he scored 30 goals and tallied 16 assists. He is pushing for seven years at a $6 million average cap hit and the Devils are going to let him walk.

Clarkson is a 29 year old right winger who brings size, grit and a talent for scoring goals in front of the net with deflections. His skating is sub par and he plays the third line role with some power play time. He disappears for long stretches and does not gel with highly skilled players. He is worth a $4 million cap hit under normal circumstances.

2013 NHL Free Agency is approaching and circumstances are definitely not normal. A team that is desperate for size in their lineup such as the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers or Calgary Flames are going to pay David Clarkson more than what he is worth.
