John Scott was well-liked by his peers before an online vote for the 2016 NHL All-Star game was ever cast. The players enjoyed Scott's presence at the All-Star game as much as the fans.

When asked about the impromptu lift Scott joked:

I was nervous. I'm not a light guy - I'm almost 300 pounds soaking wet.

John Scott ended up scoring 2 goals in the tournament and was awarded the All-Star MVP. Not bad for a player that didn't "deserve" to be there.
