A Closer Look At This Year's College Standout, Jimmy Schuldt

Every year we find young players coming out of the NCHC as highly touted prospects. Last year it was Will Butcher and Alex Kerfoot, the year before it was Jimmy Vesey. Sometimes these players go undrafted, other times they are simply not satisfied with the team that drafted them. Today we will be taking a look at this year's college standout, Jimmy Schuldt.
Who is he?
Schuldt is a 23-year old left handed defence-man playing for St Cloud state. In 3 seasons with the Huskies, Schuldt has played 117 regular season games, scoring 28 goals and 83 points.

What does he offer?
He has been praised by scouts and analysts alike for his excellent shot and good offensive capabilities.
His defensive skills have not gone unnoticed though, as he's been up at the top of his team in shot blocking. He is also the captain of the team, and many also point out his excellent leadership skills. Judd Peterson, a teammate and alternate captain for the Huskies said "He's one of the few guys in here who will speak up and speak his mind and kind of get after the team... he's a natural-born leader."

Which teams will be interested?
Hmm, who would be interested in a capable 2-way defence-man? Oh right, everyone. As an undrafted player, Schuldt would need to sign a 2-way deal that would cap out at 925k. His low cost, low risk, and high chance of reward make him desirable to pretty much every team.

Where is he going?
As a 23-year old not drafted by any team, Schuldt can go anywhere he chooses. However he has had ties to the Montreal Canadiens for some time now. With a couple of old teammates (Charlie Lindgren and Ryan Poehling) already in the organisation, he would already have some friendly faces if he came to Montreal. He also took part in the Canadiens development camp in 2017, so he has already been involved in the organisation. The Canadiens also have a need for a player like Schuldt. With the departure of players like Andrei Markov and Nathan Beaulieu, the Canadiens have a real need for a left-handed offensively capable player on the blue line.
