Rumor: Ottawa receives big offer for J.G Pageau from the Islanders

The Ottawa Senators continue on the road to rebuilding their franchise and the arrival of J.G Pageau onto the scene this year should help fast track the movement. The soon to be unrestricted free agent is lighting it up this year which is music to the ears of Senators management.

Pageau has only this year left on his deal, which is paying him $3,100,000 and it's becoming more and more obvious, the Senators are going to move the 27-year-old for some future considerations. The team is still several  years away from competing, and with 5 picks in the first 2 rounds at next year's draft, expect the Sens to swoop up another first rounder for Pageau.

At the start of the year, the team never thought it would be able to land a first rounder in a deal for Pageau, but after 19 points in 23 games and a league leading plus 17, that's the teams lone focus.

Insert the New York Islanders. The Islanders have been working the phones all season to set up some upgrades for the trade deadline and Pageau is turning into priority #1 because of his versatility and his edge. It fits in perfectly with the Islanders and the team has enough cap space to facilitate the deal.

According to executives connected to the Islanders the team recently contacting the Senators and ensured them they are willing to include their first round pick in the deal. Look for the deal to potentially turn into something bigger as the Islanders would also welcome a player like defenseman, Mark Borowiecki with open arms.

The Islanders are gearing up for a serious cup run, are willing to part with some future considerations and have the Senators circled for help. Will it be enough to get them over the top?
