Maple Leafs Moving On From Calle Jarnkrok
The Toronto Maple Leafs roster will look very different to start next season, and you can cross off Calle Jarnkrok as a potential forward to return.
Multiple reports have surfaced stating Jarnkrok won't be offered a contract by newly minted general manager John Chayka, and the Swedish forward will be hitting the open market in July 1. This shouldn't come as a huge surprise, as Jarnkrok has battled injuries these past couple of years and has since his production decline in a major way.
Jarnkrok appeared in just 56 games last season, scoring six times and recording eight points. That comes after a 2024-25 campaign where he dressed just 19 times, scoring once and adding six assists. Jarnkrok completely fell from grace in Toronto, as the year prior he was getting reps with Auston Matthews on the Maple Leafs' top line.
Chayka's expected to reshape the forward group and d-core for Toronto, and it's also likely one of their four goaltenders gets moved at the NHL Draft in a couple of weeks in Buffalo. Along with Jarnkrok, Nick Robertson and Matias Maccelli aren't expected back with the club.
As for Jarnkrok, he'll likely have to settle for a one-year, league minimum contract if he wants to stick around the NHL instead of playing back in Sweden next fall. With his proven track record of being a solid penalty killer and energetic bottom-six forward, there's still a lot to like about the player.
Now we just wait to see if other GM's feel the same.
