Rangers Rejected Ducks Blockbuster Trade Offer

The New York Rangers and Anaheim Ducks were talking blockbuster trade recently and it turns out they couldn't make it to the finish line. Talks broke off, and now Adam Henrique is an Edmonton Oiler.

The reported deal involved Henrique and Frank Vatrano heading to the Big Apple for Kaapo Kakko and a first-round pick, however the Rangers got cold feet and GM Chris Drury didn't pull the trigger.

Kakko's been involved in trade talks all season long but there's a huge risk shipping off a former #2 overall draft pick who hasn't hit close to his prime for the Rangers. Drury then decided to pivot his conversations and ended up acquiring Alex Wennberg from the Seattle Kraken for a much cheaper cost.

The Ducks are still listening on Vatrano after moving Henrique and Sam Carrick to the Oilers. Pat Verbeek is in complete sell/rebuild mode and there's even been some talks about John Gibson being involved, potentially to the New Jersey Devils.

The Ducks have moved out Carrick, Henrique, Drysdale, Lyubushkin, and now are looking to cash in on Vatrano, who has one season left on his deal at $3.65 million.

As for Kakko, he's still being discussed on trade talks, but only if there's someone heading to Broadway with term left on their contract and a ton of promise.
