3 Philadelphia Flyers Trade Candidates After Fedotov Deal
The Philadelphia Flyers were busy this weekend as they pulled off a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets, which saw goaltender Ivan Fedotov be shipped to Ohio. The move gives the Russian netminder a chance to win a backup position, and clears out Philadelphia's crowded crease.
While reuniting with Carter Hart seems like a longshot at this point, the Flyers created more flexibility with their roster, while landing a 2026 sixth-round pick. Fedotov struggled to find his footing in the NHL, posting a 6-14-5 record across three seasons, with an .874 SV% and 3.29 GAA.
The Flyers will be a busy team on the trade market, and after Fedotov was moved, here's three players to keep an eye on as the next to go:
Rasmus Ristolainen
The towering defenceman has two seasons left on his contract at $5.1 million AAV, and does no hold any trade protection. He's been linked to trades the past two seasons, thanks in large part to the Flyers being out of the playoff picture, and contending teams calling looking to shore up the depth on their blueline. Ristolainen could very well be moved this year. He's a big body who isn't afraid to play physical and sacrifice his body to win, he just may be doing that for another team before March.
Owen Tippett
Tippett is an interesting case because he had a down season last year, and did not meet expectations. Tippett scored just 20 goals in 77 games, meanwhile the expectation was for him to score mid-30's. If he can't find the back of the net, don't be surprised to hear his name invovled in trade talks. Tippett is set to earn $6.2 million AAV through the 2031-32 season, however this is the last season he doesn't have any trade protection on his contract.
Sean Couturier
The Flyers are a middle-pack team that could very well transition into a full rebuild before too long. They have a younger core coming up, and a player like Couturier could be moved to completely shift the focus to the future. The veteran two-way center is owed $7.75 million AAV through the 2029-30 season, and with the Montreal Canadiens looking for a second-line center, keep an eye on those two teams if Couturier hits the trade market.
