3 Players Who Could Be Traded Before the Start of 2025-26 Season

The NHL season is right around the corner as training camps are opening this week, which means every team is going to have some internal competition for roster spots. There's already been a ton of movement throughout the summer, and with lineups being finalized over the course of the new few weeks, expect to see some big trades go down before puck drops on opening night.

Here's three players who could very well be traded before the start of the new season:

Rasmus Andersson, Calgary Flames

The Flames have come to Andersson throughout the offseason with trade offers, and he's used his six-team no-trade clause to nix two deals, one of which was apparently to the Ottawa Senators. Andersson is entering the final season of his current contract, and Flames' captain Mikael Backlund recently admitted to the media that the Flames dressing room knows the writing is on the wall with Andersson. Look for a trade to happen sooner than later, and the Nashville Predators, Anaheim Ducks, and Detroit Red Wings are teams to watch.

Nick Robertson, Toronto Maple Leafs

The former second-round pick couldn't win over Craig Berube's trust last season, and had spot duty in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Robertson can score, and he's shown one day he'll score 25-30 goals, but so far as a Leaf, he hasn't been given consistent playing time, which is one of the reasons he's asked for a trade more than once. Look for Toronto to set their roster, which should include number-one prospect Easton Cowan, which will essentially push Robertson out the door before the year begins.

Erik Karlsson, Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins continue to discuss moving Karlsson with the Carolina Hurricanes, and it feels like, there's still a very good chance the two sides work something out before the start of the season. Once the Hurricanes get camp going, and realize in the preseason they have a gaping hole on the right side of their blueline, look for Eric Tulsky to get more aggressive with his offer. From all accounts, it sounds like Kyle Dubas is willing to retain a lot of Karlsson's contract moving forward.
