NHL Rumors: Maple Leafs Open To Trading Nick Robertson

NHL insider Chris Johnston says the Toronto Maple Leafs are open to moving Nick Robertson, even after re-signing him this summer on a one-year, $1.825M deal.

On The Chris Johnston Show, he framed it as a continuation of last year’s tension: Robertson publicly sought a trade in 2024 over usage and opportunity, then returned on a short bridge. Toronto’s stance now isn’t a fire sale, but a willingness to listen.

Competition at Leafs Camp Fuels Speculation

Why now? Toronto’s forward group is crowded after multiple additions, and Craig Berube hasn’t guaranteed Robertson a roster spot, stressing camp competition and a heavier, more responsible style.

That context, plus Robertson’s history of inconsistent minutes (including playoff scratches), makes him the most intriguing and movable chip among depth names floating around.

As for price, Johnston expects the Leafs to be “open-minded.” The return could be a similarly aged player, or a draft pick they could later flip.

Over his five-year NHL career, the 24-year-old has recorded 32 goals and 56 total points across 156 games played.
