3 Potential Trade Destinations for Predators' Steven Stamkos

According to multiple sources, the Nashville Predators could wind up trading Steven Stamkos this season. The veteran forward hasn't been able to find his groove as a Predator since signing a lucrative long-term contract a couple of summers ago, and this could be the year the team approaches Stamkos to ask him about a change of scenery.

If, if, if, it doesn't get better, could you not see a situation where it is beneficial to both team and player to explore [a trade]? - DMase Vingan & Daunic (10/23)

Stamkos, 35, has two seasons left on his current deal, at $8 million AAV. He holds a full no-movement clause and has full control of his destiny. After posting just 53 points in 82 games in his first season in Nashville, this season has been a serious struggle as Stamkos has scored just once, and added one assist in 9 games.

The Predators are currently in a wildcard spot, but with Roman Josi out long term, and with expectations rather low on their success this season, there's certainly a very good chance a fire sale begins in Nashville for GM Barry Trotz.

As far as potential trade destinations go, the Vancouver Canucks could be a team to watch here as they are desperate for center help. The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for a top-six forward and if they can make the financials work, could pair Stamkos will his best buddy John Tavares.

Lastly, keep an eye on the Carolina Hurricanes. They continue to save their cap space and are in the market for another game-changing forward. Stamkos is going to need to find his groove soon for teams to be willing to move significant pieces to the Preds.

For now, Nashville waits on Stamkos to get back on track, but keep an eye on the former Stanley Cup champion as there's a very good chance he's traded this season.
