Report: Golden Knights to sign Jack Eichel to eight-year extension

Jack Eichel isn't going anywhere.

According to multiple reports, the Vegas Golden Knights and Eichel are closing in on an eight-year contract extension, and it could be announced as soon as Wednesday morning. Eichel is entering the final season of his contract and stated he'd like to get the long-term extension out of the way before the start of the new year.

It's been a wild week of extensions after Kirill Kaprizov inked the largest contract in NHL history with his eight-year deal at $136-million, meanwhile Connor McDavid gave the Edmonton Oilers a huge hometown discount on his two year pack. At this point, it's expected Eichel's AAV will come in around what Mitch Marner was paid throughout the summer - $12 million AAV.

The 28-year-old Eichel is coming off a career season, scoring 94 points and finishing fifth in both the Hart Trophy and Selke Trophy voting. His complete game has developed tremendously throughout the past couple of seasons, and having Marner on his line for the year is going to propel his game into even further heights.

Eichel and the Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup back in 2023, a playoff run in which he scored 26 points in 22 games. With Adin Hill leading from the crease and having his eyes set on Team Canada's Olympic team, and with a balanced attack in front of him, there's a good chance the Golden Knights are going to contend for the Stanley Cup this season.

As for Eichel, he hopes that's the case every year, as he's going to be a Golden Knight for the foreseeable future.
