Report: Philadelphia Flyers Making Trade Offers
While the 2025-26 NHL season has begun, teams across the league are trying to make some finishing touches on their roster via trade. One team to keep an eye on - the Philadelphia Flyers.
According to hockey insider Elliotte Friedman, the Flyers are looking to add to their blueline to start the year.
Not sure we’re going to see much trade action too early, but Philadelphia is definitely checking what’s out there on defence via 32 Thoughts.
The Flyers have $6.6 million in cap space to work with now that they've moved Ryan Ellis' contract to the San Jose Sharks. Philadelphia has just four defencemen under contract for next season, so they could be looking for someone with term to add to their group.
As far as potential teams to trade with, the Toronto Maple Leafs have Matt Benning and Henry Thrun who were both sent down once cuts were announced. The Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues are two other teams who have a bulk of blueliners and could be looking to make a swap. The Flyers will have competition on the market from the Winnipeg Jets, who are also looking to add a defenceman now that Dylan Samberg is on the shelve.
As far as trade candidates go, the Flyers have most of their draft picks in 2026, and two first-rounders in 2027, along with two third-rounders. Off their roster, newly acquired Carl Grundstrom could be quickly turned into some defensive help, along with prospect Ethan Samson, who could be flipped for a defenceman with more experience.
