In a corresponding move, the Caps have activated Connor McMichael from the injured reserve.
Milano, 29, was originally a first-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets back in 2014. In 31 games this season with the Caps, Milano has scored four goals, and added four assists for eight points. He averaged just 8:53 of ice-time and was playing a very limited role on Washington's fourth line.
Milano is expected to clear waivers and will be sent down to the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears. This demotion comes after a rough 2024-25 season for Milano, as he played in just three games before an upper-body injury knocked him out for the last few months of the 2024-25 season.McMichael on the other hand, has appeared in 55 games this season, scoring eight goals, and adding 23 assists for 31 points, while averaging 17:02 of ice-time, including both sides of special teams. He suffered an upper-body injury last month, and was taken out of action.
McMichael returns to Washington's lineup Wednesday night, when they take on the Philadelphia Flyers, as the NHL season resumes with eight games on deck.
