3 Offseason Trade Destinations for Canadiens' Samuel Montembeault

Samuel Montemebeault, Montreal Canadiens

Montreal Canadiens goalie Samuel Montembeault will be a clear trade candidate to watch during the summer. With the Habs having young goalies Jakub Dobes and Jacob Fowler, it would not be surprising in the slightest if they traded Montembeault this offseason. This is especially so when noting that he struggled big time this regular season, evidenced by his .872 save percentage and 3.43 goals-against average.

Yet, given Montembeault's resume, there could be some teams out there willing to take a chance on him as a bounce-back candidate. Due to this, let's look at three teams that could look to acquire Montembeault this offseason.

Vegas Golden Knights

Goaltending has been a major issue for the Golden Knights this season, so they could be a team to keep an eye on when it comes to Montembeault. At a minimum, Montembeault would provide the Golden Knights with another backup option who has a good amount of NHL experience. Every Golden Knights goalie this season had a save percentage under .900 save percentage.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers may have struck gold signing Dan Vladar this past offseason, but Sam Ersson has had a nightmare season for them. Because of this, it would not be shocking if the Flyers looked to add a new backup this summer, and Montembeault stands out as an intriguing option for them.

Florida Panthers

The Panthers could look to add to their goalie depth this offseason, so they could be a team to keep an eye on when it comes to Montembeault. This is especially so if they end up losing goalie Sergei Bobrovsky in free agency. Yet, even if Bobrovsky stays in Florida, Montembeault could be a solid backup or 1B goalie for Florida if he bounces back. He is also a goalie who the Panthers know well, as he previously played for them.
