3 Potential Trade Destinations for Maple Leafs' Nick Robertson
The Toronto Maple Leafs had a very up and down season and their inconsistencies were felt throughout their entire lineup. Forward Nick Robertson was one Maple Leaf who wasn't able to produce throughout the entire season, and heading into the offseason, there's a good chance Robertson is moved.
The former second-round pick asked for a trade last offseason, but Brad Treliving denied the request and signed him to a one-year deal. Head coach Craig Berube doesn't fully trust Robertson, so even though he's changed his game and evolved in all three zones, Berube doesn't play Robertson consistent minutes.
Robertson's a pending restricted free agent and it's very likely once the new GM is hired, Robertson's agent asked for his client to be moved. The pesky winger has 30-goal potential, but he hasn't been able to see top-six minutes on a regular basis. So far this season, Robertson's appeared in 73 games, scoring 15 goals and 31 points both career highs.
As far as trade destinations go, the Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, or Dallas Stars would be at the very top of Robertson's preferred destinations. The Kings and Sharks are close to home for the California native, and with his brother playing in Dallas, it would be a dream come true for the Robertson family to see their boys together on the same team.
The Leafs will focus on either a third-line center with term on their contract or a two-way defenseman who can help run a power play in return, if Robertson winds up dealt.
For now, the Leafs are searching for a new GM, Berube is likely being fired, and Robertson's one of many Leafs who could be dealt this offseason.
