Islanders Fire Patrick Roy, Name Notable Replacement
Trying to salvage their season with just 4 games to play, the slumping New York Islanders have fired head coach Patrick Roy and replaced him with Pete DeBoer.
#Isles News: New York Islanders General Manager and Executive Vice President Mathieu Darche announced today that Patrick Roy has been relieved of his coaching responsibilities. Peter DeBoer has been named Head Coach of the New York Islanders.

Roy had two years left on his contract. He posted a record of 97-78-22 at the helm of the Islanders over two+ seasons.
DeBoer will try to turn the Isles' fortunes around in time to salvage a playoff berth. They've lost four straight games and are 3-7-0 in their last 10. They trail a playoff berth by one point, both in the Metropolitan Division and in the Wild Card chase.
The hard-charging Philadelphia Flyers passed them on Sunday.
Unlike the recent John Tortorella hiring by the Vegas Golden Knights with a handful of games remaining, reports are that DeBoer will have some term on his contract into the coming seasons.
DeBoer has a career regular-season head coaching record of 662-447-152 for a .585 points pct., with a 97-82 mark in the postseason. He's been behind the bench for the Florida Panthers, New Jersey Devils, San Jose Sharks, Vegas Golden Knights and most recently, the Dallas Stars.
