3 Potential Trade Destinations for Maple Leafs' Anthony Stolarz

The Toronto Maple Leafs are interested in signing free-agent goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky on July 1, which could mean former starter Anthony Stolarz is on the trade block.

Even with Joseph Woll being moved earlier in the offseason, John Chayka has made a point that he'd like to reshape the blueline and upgrade in net, and Stolarz is a prime trade candidate. The Maple Leafs have two young netminders in Dennis Hildeby and Artur Akhtyamov, who both starred in the AHL this season, leading the Toronto Marlies to a Calder Cup. Hildeby is on a one-way contract next season, and Akhtyamov sees Bobrovsky as a mentor, which could align nicely for the pair in Toronto next season.

As for Stolarz, he's signed for four years at a very reasonable $3.7 million AAV. The 32-year-old owns a 16-team no-trade clause, and does have some say in the matter. Here's three teams who may end up dealing with the Maple Leafs:

Florida Panthers

Yes, the in-division trades have been more common these days, and the Panthers need a starting goalie for next season, and see Bobrovsky as too expensive at this point, based on his initial contract demands. The only issue here is the fact the Panthers don't have much for trade assets, but if they're interested in Stolarz, will need to provide at least an NHL ready defenceman, and depth forward. Jesper Boqvist would be someone on the Leafs radar.

New Jersey Devils

The Devils have been shopping Jacob Markstrom, but the Leafs wouldn't be interested in that swap. However, if the Devils move Markstrom to the Chicago Blackhawks, or another team and land a forward, Stolarz could be of interest. The Leafs love Paul Cotter, so it will be interesting to see if these two teams can work something out this summer.

Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers would love to get their hands on Stolarz. They tried to refresh their crease last season with Tristan Jarry and Connor Ingram, and now are once again in the market for a 1-A starter who can push Jarry to a backup role. Ty Emberson is someone the Leafs love and would likely be involved if these two construct an offseason transaction.
