Insider Has Stunning Report On Connor McDavid's Future With Oilers
With all the furor over the impending hiring of Mike Babcock as the new head coach of the Edmonton Oilers, what does this mean for the future of superstar Connor McDavid, who's heading into a short two-year extension with the club?
Many feel that the team has this year only to show that they're serious Stanley Cup contenders once again, or their captain could ask out.
But according to the most plugged-in Oilers insider, Bob Stauffer of Oilers Now, McDavid will remain in Edmonton for the long haul.
"I don't think there's anybody more committed to Edmonton than Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl... I expect the next contract to be a seven-year extension."@Bob_Stauffer joins @Mattymar89 and @FutaMichael to discuss the ongoing conversation surrounding McDavid's future. pic.twitter.com/3K42zr6RBY

"I don't think there's anybody more committed to Edmonton than Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, ok? I expect the next contract that Connor McDavid signs to be a seven-year extension." (That is the new maximum length contract under the new CBA).
He alluded to the fact that McDavid was consulted on the pending Babcock hiring, and that means something to him.
“You empower to get players involved, that’s the way of the future... When you empower the players, I think you end up getting greater conviction from them," said Stauffer.
"When I'm sitting here telling you that from ownership to management to the players, everybody is 100% on board with Mike Babcock, you probably know the level of engagement with the Oilers top players."
Draisaitl is already signed up on an eight-year extension that just kicked in this past season.
However, even though the leadership group, like McJesus & Drai, are on board, we've heard a rumor that there's at least one Oilers player who isn't too happy about Babcock being brought in, and he could ask for a trade.
Kris Knoblauch was fired last month after the Oilers bowed out in the first round of the playoffs, following two consecutive trips to the Finals.
