NHL Trade Rumors: Maple Leafs Offering 2 Forwards in Trade Talks
The Toronto Maple Leafs are in for some roster reconstruction this offseason, as general manager John Chayka will be looking to put his fingerprints all over his new roster. When it comes to trade talks, while all the attention has been on Morgan Rielly, and one of the Leafs' four goalies being moved, turns out, it's a couple of forwards who could on the move.
Matias Maccelli and Nick Robertson are rumored to be offered in trade talks from Chayka. Both wingers are pending restricted free agents, and with Gavin McKenna coming, and the arrival of Easton Cowan, neither Robertson or Maccelli have a home in Toronto's top six. Given their size and style of play, they aren't suited for a bottom-six role, and Chayka is well aware a change is needed.
Speculation brews that Robertson and Maccelli have been offered in talks as Chayka looks to acquire a shutdown center and a mobile defenceman, and considering the lack of trade assets the Leafs' GM has to work with, it makes sense for him to turn to his current roster to make some adjustments.
As far as trade packages are concerned, it's certainly not out of the question to see both players moved together, or in separate packages, along with one of Dennis Hildeby, Anthony Stolarz, or Rielly. There's also defenceman Brandon Carlo, who has been garnering trade interest from other teams.
At the end of the day, changes are coming in Toronto, and it's very likely we see Robertson and Maccelli moved out before the NHL Draft in two weeks from Buffalo.
