Toronto Maple Leafs Including Brandon Carlo In Trade Offers

The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to reshape their blueline, and right-handed defenceman Brandon Carlo is a prime trade candidate to be moved this offseason.

Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka stated immediately after taking the job that he's going to concentrate on retooling Toronto's blueline, and that stems a lot from feedback from John Tavares, William Nylander, and Auston Matthews, who all reportedly had mentioned during exit interviews before Chayka arrived, that they felt the blueline wasn't mobile enough, and had troubles moving the puck.

Since taking over, all Chayka's done is add puck movers, in Darren Raddysh and Emil Andrea. With Simon Benoit moved, and Chris Tanev, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Jake McCabe, and even Morgan Rielly signed for next season, Carlo is looking like the odd man out.
The Fourth Period: With the addition of Darren Raddysh, the blueline is getting crowded in Toronto; Brandon Carlo’s name is being tossed around the trade market (6/19)

The towering righty is signed for next season at $3.4 million AAV, a very reasonable contract for a top-four defenceman, however, the Leafs don't have top-four minutes available and want a cheaper bottom pair. Carlo has yet to score in almost two years as a Leaf, and hasn't really contributed much, outside of killing penalties.

As far as trade destinations go, don't be surprised to see the San Jose Sharks circling the waters and trying to use their draft capital to entice the Leafs. Something around a third round pick, or later pick and prospect will get the job done. Leafs Nation won't ever be able to forgive Brad Treliving for trading a first and fourth round pick, along with top prospect Fraser Minten to the Boston Bruins.
