BREAKING: Blashill To Be Fired as Red Wings' Head Coach

It is clear that significant changes are going to be made in Hockeytown. The Detroit Red Wings have extended their losing streak to 6 games after being defeated 2-1 by the Tampa Bay Lightning. After snapping a 12-game losing streak earlier this month, the Wings have continued their losing ways.

The Red Wings are 2-16-2 in their last 20 games, and sit firmly in last place of the standings. They are on pace to match their worst season in franchise history (1985-86) with an abysmal 40 points.

It is said that general manager, Steve Yzerman, is going to fire head coach, Jeff Blashill, within the coming days. Blashill is in his 5th season as the Red Wings' bench boss and has failed to make the playoffs since the 2015-16 season. The onus is not solely on Blashill, but changes are required nonetheless. Although the Red Wings are hoping to land the 1st overall pick in the 2020 draft, their current record is an embarrassment to the organization.

"I do think that Blashill's days are numbered as the head coach. Though it is a team effort, the creativity behind the bench has been stifled. The use of existing new talent in the system hasn't seemed to be a major focus."                                                                    Rachel Anderson of "The Hockey Writers"
Assistant coach, Dan Bylsma, is likely to be promoted as the interim head coach of the team. Bylsma coached the 2009 Pittsburgh Penguins to a Stanley Cup Championship against the Red Wings. These changes are not designed to drastically improve the team, but are instead intended to put and end to extensive and humiliating losing streaks. Expect the Red Wings to start the next decade with a new head coach.
