Maple Leafs Reveal Huge Update On Stolarz Condition After Headshot

Leafs goalie Anthony Stolarz was throwing up on the bench, shortly after a headshot from the elbow of Sam Bennett, but the team says he is doing fine today and he's not ruled out of Game 2

It was an ugly scene during Game 1 of the Toronto Maple Leafs/Florida Panthers series, as cameras caught Leafs goalie Anthony Stolarz throwing up on the bench, shortly after a headshot from the elbow of Sam Bennett knocked him to the ice. Stolarz was taken from the arena on a stretcher to the hospital.

Naturally, fears of a concussion were all around, and the Leafs have revealed the latest update on their No. 1 goalie late Tuesday morning. And the news is as good as it could possibly be: He hasn't been ruled out for Game 2 on Wednesday.

What is Anthony Stolarz's status after Sam Bennett headshot?

Head coach Craig Berube says that Stolarz is "doing well" and that Game 2 is not off the table“Yeah I don’t know that yet … I’ll probably find out (later) today.”

Teammate Brandon Carlo also noted that Stolarz was looking good this morning.

Stolarz took a puck off his chin that knocked his mask off at one point, then shortly after, Bennett came flying through the crease to elbow his former teammate in the head, which left him sprawled flat on the ice.

After another 10 minutes or so, Stolarz went to the bench and began puking into a bucket.

The news this morning, however, is tremendous.

Joseph Woll replaced Stolarz midway through the second period, and the Leafs hung on for a 5-4 victory.

As for Bennett, the perpetrator of the headshot, claimed this morning that Stolarz is a good friend of his, and that he "didn't even know I made contact until after."

Not only did Bennett not receive a penalty on the play, he is not expected to face any supplemental discipline from NHL Player Safety.
