Report: Quinn Hughes Not Interested In Minnesota 'Long Term'

The Quinn Hughes saga continues in Minnesota, and Wild fans are starting to feel a little uneasy about how everything is going to play out. GM Bill Guerin has been open and honest to the media that this is much bigger than hockey, and a family decision for Hughes, and most recently, hockey insider, and free-agent Elliotte Friedman reported via NHL Network, that Hughes isn't thinking Minnesota is a fit long term.

Hughes has been eligible to sign a contract extension with Minnesota since July 1, and so far, talks haven't been remotely close to a short-term, or long-term extension. Guerin has mentioned repeatedly that the process has been very professional, and he has a great relationship with Hughes and his agent, however, no progress is being made.

The Wild will have a major decision to make at some point before training camp, or throughout the season, if they decide to keep Hughes, at least for now. Considering Hughes doesn't have any trade protection on this last year of his current deal, the Wild could move him out to the highest bidder, in what would be a very 'rental focused' move for onlooking teams.

It's been widely reported that Hughes prefers to join his two brothers on the New Jersey Devils, and considering he's just months away from being able to hit the open market, and sign with the Devils, it's certainly complicating any traction the Wild are looking to make with a new contract.
