3 New York Rangers Trade Candidates Heading Into Next Season

The New York Rangers have made some drastic roster changes these past few months, and word is, general manager Chris Drury isn't finished tinkering with his roster.

The Rangers remain one of the teams in the mushy-middle of the NHL, and will need to figure out what their best form of direction is moving forward. Drury has moved out some big names and tried to reshape the core of his roster, but frankly, isn't finished making significant trades. If the Rangers don't start strong next season, Drury is expected to blow things up considerably.

Here's three Rangers to keep an eye on as trade candidates heading into next season:

Alexis Lafreniere

Lafreniere is no stranger to trade rumors, as they've been following him around since day one in the Big Apple. The shifty winger hasn't quite reached his potential, but is certainly trending in the right direction, coming off a 24-goal, and 57-point season. The 24-year-old is inked through the 2032 season at $7.4 million AAV, and Drury has until July of next year to move Lafreniere without any trade protection to worry about. The Vancouver Canucks are keeping a close eye on the situation. 

Adam Fox

Fox has been a big part of the Rangers' core these past several years, but his time could be running out on Broadway. Fox, 28, has three seasons left on his deal at $9.5 million AAV, and owns a full no-movement clause until next summer, when his trade protection changes to a 16-team no-trade list. Fox isn't as dynamic as he once was a few years ago, but many feel with a change of scenery, he could get back to being one of the elite offensive defenceman in the game. 

Braden Schneider

Some around the league are surprised Schneider hasn't been traded yet, as talks intensified throughout the NHL Draft and the beginning of free agency. The Rangers have the right-handed blueliner inked for next season at $5.5 million AAV, and he's a pending restricted free agent for one more year, before becoming unrestricted. Schneider almost got moved to Anaheim earlier on this summer, so don't be surprised to see them circle back if the Rangers can't get a long-term deal completed.
