Bruins looking to add grit and scoring at trade deadline

The Boston Bruins have been near the top of the league standings for most of the season and after falling to the Blues in the Stanley Cup Finals, it appears Boston GM Don Sweeney is ready to go all-in on another shot at Lord Stanley.

Boston has always liked its gritty players that can chip in on offense when needed, NBC Sports Boston lists Chris Kreider(NYR) as the main target for the Bruins at the deadline, but he may prove to be too expensive to bring to Beantown. Sweeney may not want to pay the price the Rangers want for Kreider and should already be considering other options.

There are a few teams that will be sellers for sure at the deadline and the Bruins could benefit greatly for a fraction of the price for Kreider. Two names that have come up are Miles Wood(NJ) and Craig Smith(NSH). Smith will be UFA end of the year and would only cost a draft pick. Wood has multiple years left on his current deal and Jersey would probably want a roster player or top AHL prospect in  the deal.

On the backend the Bruins could target two California Defensemen, Brenden Dillon(SJ) and Josh Manson(ANH). Both are tough, rugged defenders that have been through the playoff grind before. Dillon is UFA at the end of the year, probably looking at 2nd round pick or prospects for him. Manson has two years left after this season at a $4.1 million cap hit and has a 12-team no trade clause. The price for Manson would be a roster player currently playing top-six defense or forward. Much like Kreider, the price for Manson will probably make Sweeney gun shy to pull the trigger.

Just five weeks until the trade deadline, will the Bruins go all-in to lift Lord Stanley this year?
