New York Rangers Officially Buyout Tony DeAngelo

It was already established that the New York Rangers would buyout defenseman Tony DeAngelo, but now, it is finally official. Thus, this prolonged saga is over and both parties can move forward.

DeAngelo of course was no longer allowed to play for the team after he started an altercation with goaltender Alexandar Georgiev. DeAngelo would only end up playing in six games because of this and had one assist. Now, the 25-year-old defenseman is an unrestricted free agent.

It will be interesting to see if any NHL teams will take a chance on DeAngelo with his controversial past. When on his game, he can produce a lot of offense from the backend and play top-four minutes. In the 2019-20 season, he had 15 goals and 53 points in 68 games, so perhaps he will get interest. The Montreal Canadiens also wanted to acquire him during this season, too.

Regardless, the Rangers now have cap space to work with and can use it to better the team elsewhere.
