NHL Rumors: Blackhawks Receiving Trade Calls on Patrick Kane

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Chicago Blackhawks have received trade calls on star forward Patrick Kane. While a deal isn't expected to be completed any time soon, this is certainly a new development coming out of the windy city.

Friedman discussed the Blackhawks rebuild via his 32 Thoughts article recently and had this to say about what's going on with Kane in Chicago:

Before Davidson’s official hire, the word out of Chicago was the only way either would be traded was if they wanted to go. (They are one year from unrestricted free agency.) Both will be given a picture of what Davidson is thinking; we will see how they feel. The Blackhawks have been asked about Kane, I can’t imagine anything happening before the summer – assuming anything happens at all.

While the Blackhawks have now entered a full rebuild according to newly minted general manager Kyle Davidson, don't expect to see Kane dealt this season. If something was to go down, it would be in the summer and likely at the NHL entry draft. At this point it's not likely to happen at all, but this is the first time it's been confirmed other teams are trying to pry Kane away from the Blackhawks.

So far in 50 games this season, Kane has recorded 53 points and has been a bright spot for the struggling Blackhawks. He has only next season left on his contract at $10.5 million and the 33-year-old has a full no-movement clause. While no teams have been reported as of yet, the New York Rangers are one team to watch if Kane does indeed open up to be dealt.
