Florida Panthers Sign Goalie to Extension

The Florida Panthers have signed Spencer Knight to a three-year contract extension. He will carry a $4.5 million cap hit starting in 2023-24.

The Panthers selected Knight with the 13th overall pick of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and he is expected to develop into a top-flight netminder as a result of it. Yet, at the time of this extension, he also has only appeared in 36 career games, where he has a 23-9-3 record, 2.74 GAA, and .909 SV%. Overall, he has had some success, and the Panthers are confident enough in his abilities to give him a pretty hefty raise so early on in his career because of it.

If Knight improves as he continues to gain NHL experience, this deal could become an excellent one. It will be intriguing to see how well he does this upcoming season before the extension begins. Overall, GM Bill Zito is showing immense trust in the Darien native, and we will have to wait and see how well it pays off.
