Breaking NHL News: Flyers Lock Up RFA Cam York to Lengthy Deal
You had to figure when he didn't elect to file for arbitration that something was up with Cam York. Turns out, he and the Philadelphia Flyers were putting the finishing touches on a lengthy new contract. The two sides have agreed on a five-year deal with a $5.15 AAV.

Good piece of business done
The 24-year-old had his problems with head coach John Tortorella at times this past season, even finding himself out of the lineup on several occasions. However, Torts is gone now, and York has a new lease on life as a top-four D-man in Philly for the next half-decade.
As Kevin Kurz of The Athletic wrote recently, "There’s reason to believe there may not be a player on the Flyers’ roster who will benefit more from a coaching change to Rick Tocchet than York."
The 6-foot, 194-pound D-man suffered a shoulder injury that kept him out for a month early in the season, and wound up playing 66 games. But his offensive output was down, as he registered 17 points and a minus-8 rating, while averaging 20:47 of ice time per night.
But all that is in the past, and the hope is that he can return to a potential true top-pairing blueliner, as he showed in the second half of the 2023-24 season.
