NHL News: Carolina Hurricanes Sign Kevin Labanc To PTO

The Carolina Hurricanes have made a move, as they have signed forward Kevin Labanc to a professional tryout (PTO).

Labanc is among the top unrestricted free agents (UFAs) still looking for their next contract. Yet, after landing this PTO with the Hurricanes, he is now a step closer to potentially doing just that.

Labanc played in 34 games this past season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he recorded two goals, 11 points, and a plus-1 rating. His 2024-25 season came to an end after he suffered a shoulder injury in February.

Overall, there is no real harm in the Hurricanes inviting Labanc to training camp through this PTO. The Brooklyn, New York native has a good amount of NHL experience and could be a solid depth forward the Hurricanes if he earns a contract for the season. However, time will tell if he can do just that from here.

In 512 career NHL games split between the San Jose Sharks and the Blue Jackets, Labanc has recorded 84 goals, 153 assists, and 237 points. His best season was in 2018-19 with the Sharks, as he set career highs with 17 goals, 39 assists, and 56 points in 82 games.
