NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Teams to Watch Should Penguins Trade Sidney Crosby

The trade rumors have been flying around this week after the agent for Pittsburgh Penguins' captain Sidney Crosby stated a 'trade is a possibility' for the future hall-of-famer, all depending of course, on how the Penguins start this season.

After the team told Evgeni Malkin he won't be re-signed, and how aggressive Kyle Dubas has been on the trade market trying to create a 'new core' in Pittsburgh, Crosby's name continued to circle, but now, it's more of a possibility than ever.

"I mean, I'm answering something that - let's put it this way, it's always a possibility, you know?" Brisson said when asked if Crosby would entertain a trade. "It's been three years they haven't made the playoffs. It all depends on how Sid is going to be and how the team is going to do. I maintain the same position that I do believe that he should be playing playoff hockey every year, in my opinion."

Crosby has two seasons left on his contract at his standard $8.7 million AAV, and with his full no-movement clause, and of course everything he's done for the Penguins' franchise, Dubas will hand over the keys to Crosby should a trade be materializing.

Chris Johnston: Re Sidney Crosby: I think you're right to have the Canadiens and Avalanche as the teams first in mind of where he might go, but I don't think the list will end there, if he ever gets there; he's not there yet - Chris Johnston Show (9/10)

Here's three teams to keep an eye on should Crosby approve a deal:

Montreal Canadiens

Crosby's childhood favorite team is going to be in the mix, especially if they can take a step forward closer to not only playoff contention, but challenging for a Stanley Cup within the next three years. The Canadiens have a strong young core, with the best prospect pool in the league, so keep an eye on Montreal if everything falls into place in both cities.

Colorado Avalanche

Move over Hughes brothers, Nathan MacKinnon wants to play with his best friend. The Avalanche will be a contender in the Crosby sweepstakes and there's a very good chance they become the favorites considering their relationship, but also the fact the Avs are a Stanley Cup contender this season, and the next few.

Vegas Golden Knights

Darkhorse team, but one that loves to get involved when there's a big fish available. Mitch Marner was their prized pick up this summer, and Marner and Crosby have become very close the past couple of seasons, and have even trained together regularly in the offseason. Vegas may not make the best offer, but at the end of the day, it's up to Crosby and not Dubas.
