Oilers Sign D-Man Jake Walman To Huge Extension
As if the stunning Connor McDavid news wasn't enough, the Edmonton Oilers have also locked in defenseman Jake Walman to a big extension, though it's not as team-friendly as #97's.

Reports have the Oilers signing Walman to a seven-year extension with a $7 million AAV, a bit more than what had been rumored. AFP Analytics had projected the d-man at a long-term deal with a $6.5M cap it.
Walman, 29, turned out to be a great pick-up by the Oilers at last season's deadline, and he immediately established himself as a solid top-pair blueliner for the Cup contenders with his ability to move the puck and produce offense while being a shot-blocking presence on the defensive end.
In 15 regular-season games with Edmonton, he notched eight points with 34 blocks and a +5 plus/minus rating, while logging 21:26 of ice time per night. In the playoffs he continued his excellent play, with 10 points in 22 games with 66 blocks and 37 hits, along with a +9 rating.
He's wrapping up a three-year, $10.2 million contract with a $3.4 million cap hit. His new deal kicks in for 2026-27.
