Ottawa Senators trade David Perron to Detroit Red Wings

David Perron is heading back to Motown.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings announced a deal on Thursday night that sees Perron head back to the Red Wings in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round pick. Perron, 37, is currently on the injured reserve, and held a 15-team no-trade list as part of his $4 million AAV contract.

Perron's a pending unrestricted free agent and gives the Red Wings dressing room some more playoff experience, and a versatile winger, who can play up and down the lineup. Perron's dressed in 49 games this season, scoring 10 goals, and 25 points. He's averaging 13:26 of ice-time per game, and has been used as a power-play specialist in Ottawa.

Perron's also landed 64 hits and has 18 blocked shots. The veteran winger spent two seasons with the Red Wings from 2022-2024 before joining the Senators. Perron scored 24 goals and 52 points in 82 games his first season in Detroit, and 47 points in 76 games in 2024.

The Red Wings were under the microscope this season after Steve Yzerman didn't do much before last season's trade deadline, and with a team that looks like they can make some noise in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, don't be surprised to see Yzerman now make a bigger splash.

Detroit has been linked to Vincent Trocheck, Elias Pettersson, and Robert Thomas up front, meanwhile have interest in Rasmus Ristolainen and Justin Faulk on the back end.

Something big is brewing in Motown, and Perron could very easily just be the beginning of a big 24 hours for Red Wing fans.
