For the second day in a row, the Edmonton Oilers have gotten a long-term commitment from one of their key unrestricted free agents, signing defenseman Connor Murphy to a five-year deal worth $20.5 million ($4.1M AAV).

Murphy gets a full no-move clause for the first three years of the deal, then it reverts to a 16-team trade list.

right-shot D-man who plays strong defense and is key on the penalty kill, Murphy was acquired by the Oil in a trade deadline deal with the Chicago Blackhawks. In his 20 games with the Oilers, the top-four blueliner logged 20:27 minutes of average ice time, while posting four points, a +1 rating, blocking 50 shots and registering 28 hits.

It's a solid deal for Edmonton GM Stan Bowman, who gets the 33-year-old defender on a discount, as Murphy will earn less than the $4.4 million AAV on his last contract. They do get that discount at the expense of term, however, as Murphy will be 38 when the deal is up.

On Sunday, the Oilers locked in another important UFA, signing Jason Dickinson to a five-year deal, at a $4 million cap hit.
