NHL Trade Rumors: Torey Krug to be dealt to the Detroit Red Wings

According to NBC's Pierre McGuire, Boston defenceman Torey Krug could be dealt in the next 12 months. And there is currently only one front-runner for the former Michigan State captain.

In McGuire's report, he stated that Krug will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, 2020 and he is looking for a big contract. McGuire believes that Krug will use pending UFA Erik Karlsson's upcoming contract as leverage when he goes to sign his.

McGuire believes that the Detroit Red Wings are the only front-runners as of now and that Detroit GM Steve Yzerman doesn't care what it takes to either acquire him or sign him. Yzerman is reportedly patient enough to wait until Krug becomes an UFA, and would be willing to trade for the right price.

If Karlsson signs a new contract upwards of $10M AAV, McGuire said that Krug will be looking for a long-term contract in the ballpark of $9-$9.5 million per season.

With new management comes big changes, could we see Krug in the Winged Wheel uniform sometime soon?
