NHL Trade Rumor: Block Buster Trade Offer for Laine on The Table from New Jersey

The word from 2 sources in NJ, is that the Devils are all in on an attempt to acquire Patrick Laine in deal that makes the Taylor Hall trade look like child's play.

I have just been informed that the Devils have offered 3 of their next 4, first round draft picks along with 25 year old, right shot Defenceman, Damon Severson for Jets sniper, Patrick Laine.

My first thought was, well that sounds like a lot!

The more I processed the offer however, the more it made sense. Laine, still an RFA and former 44 goal scorer just came off a season many deemed a bust where he still scored 30 goals. The kid was a 2nd overall draft pick behind non other then Auston Matthew and is still just 21 years old.

The devils are betting on themselves in this deal. Acquire a player which will put their young core over the top and into contention. Devils GM, Ray Shero figures if he can pull off this move, at least 2 of those picks would be late round and perhaps they can option on the other.

With the one, two punch of Hischier & Hughes down the middle for the next decade or so, adding an elite scoring winger on the right side to complement that of superstar Taylor Hall on the left could be just the magic New Jersey needs to catapult the team back to relevancy.

I have also been told there are some other smaller moving parts to this trade but are hardy worth mentioning in the context of the other assets in play here.

I want to hear what you guys think? Could both teams win in this deal?

Keep a close eye on Jersey. If anyone will make a splash, it's bound to be them.
