NHL Rumors: Nashville Predators Defenseman Linked to Senators

Last week, NHL insider Frank Seravalli reported that the Nashville Predators have made Mattias Ekholm available for trade. Since then, rumors have been swirling about which teams are interested in the veteran defenseman, and now a new team has reportedly joined the sweepstakes. According to the Fourth Period, the Ottawa Senators are expressing interest in Ekholm.

It is easy to understand why the Senators are interested in Ekholm, as their defensive group could use a notable boost. After all, their defensive woes are a major reason why they are currently out of a playoff spot. As a result, it makes sense that they have been linked in several defensemen this season, Ekholm is just the latest to join that trend.

Ekholm has multiple years left on his contract, so it makes sense that a non-playoff team like the Senators are making a push for him. It will be interesting to see if they end up acquiring him from here, but it is clear that there could be a very good match here.
