BREAKING: Calgary Flames Make Huge Decision On Coach Darryl Sutter

The discussions have been ongoing since the end of a disastrous season for the Calgary Flames. But now, according to numerous reports, it appears that the decision has been made: The Flames have fired head coach Darryl Sutter.

Calgary had signed Sutter to a two-year extension which doesn't kick in until next season; they will still owe him that $4M per year.

The move, interestingly, comes shortly after General Manager Brad Treliving left the organization, as he had wanted the team to move on from Sutter. Treliving got his wish, but a little too late.

The rifts between Sutter and not only his former GM, but scads of Flames players as well, obviously became too much for the organization to bear. Just a few days ago, NHL Insider Darren Dreger reported that "there are some players who are willing to not come back, even under contract, if Darryl is still on the bench of the Calgary Flames. That feels a bit extreme, but that seems to be the direction in Calgary.”
