Red Wings Rumors: Patrick Kane Trade Talks Heating Up in Detroit

After months and months of speculation on where Patrick Kane was going to sign, he decided to reunite with Alex DeBrincat and join the Detroit Red Wings. Turns out things in Motown are not going as planned and a trade could be coming in the new year.

The Athletic's Chris Johnston confirmed Kane will be making an appearance on his trade bait board and it's a likely scenario we see across all the major insiders trade boards. Before Kane signed with the Red Wings he worked out a deal with GM Steve Yzerman that if the Red Wings were not in playoff contention, Yzerman would trade Kane to a contender ahead of March's deadline.

The Red Wings sit 16-15-4 on the season and over the course of the last 10 games are 2-8-0. Kane has appeared in 11 games and has recorded 11 points so it's hard to point the finger at the future hall-of-famer. He's owed $2.75 million against the cap this season, which is a figure many contending teams will be able to take on closer to the trade deadline.

The New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs are the teams to watch as several of these clubs had visits and meetings with Kane and were very close to signing him before Yzerman swooped in.
