Hurricanes Rumors: 3 Contract Extension Candidates

The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now because of it. However, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.

In this latest edition of the series, we will be focusing on the Carolina Hurricanes.

Jake Guentzel: The Hurricanes made a massive splash when they acquired Jake Guentzel from the Pittsburgh Penguins before the deadline passed. He has made an immediate impact for them and is fitting in beautifully. Because of this, there is no question that the Hurricanes are going to try to get him signed to a contract extension.

Brett Pesce: Brett Pesce has been a key part of the Hurricanes' blue line for several seasons now. Because of this, he is another notable extension candidate on their roster. Losing him would be tough for the Hurricanes, as he is their top defensive defenseman. If he hits the market, he will generate a lot of interest.

Teuvo Teravainen: Teuvo Teravainen has had a big season for the Hurricanes in 2023-24. He is one of their most impactful forwards, so it is quite possible that they will look to keep him around beyond this season. This is especially so when noting that he has played for the Canes for several seasons now.
