Trade Proposal: A 1st-round pick of the Flyers for Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews
With free agency on the horizon, teams are building their postseason plans.
News of Auston Matthews' noncommittal statement to the Toronto Maple Leafs organization has caused an uproar in the media.
Statements like his yesterday should give pause to general manager John Chayka, as he will have to contend with a potentially disgruntled superstar in Matthews and figure out where to go next.
With not even so much as their yearly first-round exit, the Maple Leafs will have to figure out their next steps with Brad Treliving, and Mitch Marner gone (traded to the Vegas Golden Knights earlier this season).
Fans often get to play armchair GMs in their own head, and this trade proposal we found from X yesterday was pretty mind-blowing.
If GM Danny Briere were to trade Matvei Michkov, it's assumed it'd be for a superstar, in the realm of Alex Ovechkin, or, say, Auston Matthews.
With the arrival of Porter Martone, who has played above expectations for the Flyers in the playoffs, it's given rise to the disposability of Michkov in the fans' eyes, as a trade chip for "better".
One fan was bold enough to suggest a trade for Auston Matthews, involving the Flyers:
@ADiMarco25 Matthews for Michkov and two Firsts. You do it?

The return for the Maple Leafs would be quite rich, in helping to build a solid future for a team that hasn't seen a Stanley Cup since 1967, and past the first round of the playoffs since 2023.
The Maple Leafs currently possess the lottery ticket (1st overall in 2026) to forward Gavin McKenna; does this change their outlook for the future?
