NHL Trade Rumors: Maple Leafs Rejecting Matthew Knies Trade Offers
The Toronto Maple Leafs are supposed to be making a slew of roster moves this summer, as the first offseason for John Chayka and Mats Sundin will be an extremely important one. The team is as fragile as ever, and in desperate need for some direction.
While there's a number of players who are expected to get traded, including one of their four goaltenders, Morgan Rielly, Brandon Carlo, Nick Robertson, and Matias Maccelli, you can scratch off Matthew Knies' name from the list.
After Brad Treliving almost dealt Knies to the Montreal Canadiens, which would have certainly been the end of the Auston Matthews' era, Chayka's come in and made one thing very clear - he likes Knies, and Knies is going to remain a Maple Leaf.
Chayka's been reportedly denying trade offers on Knies ever since the news dropped that Treliving and Montreal were minutes away from pulling off the deadline deal. Instead, the Leafs have since fired Treliving, won the NHL Draft Lottery, and now get to add Gavin McKenna as the first-overall pick, and not to mention he'll be playing meaningful minutes on a entry-level contract.
Matthew Knies and William Nylander were at a loss for words after finding out the Leafs got the number 1 overall pick while at the Marlies game.

With Knies sitting at $7.7 million AAV through the 2031 season, and with his power forward capabilities, and scoring touch, keeping him to play alongside Matthews is a very smart move by Chayka. The ask now is to find a right winger, and who knows, perhaps McKenna gets a look there.
Alex Tuch is out there, could Chayka spend big in his first offseason?
Who knows, what's for sure though however, Knies is a Maple Leaf, and it's staying that way.
