2013 NHL Trade Rumors: Alex Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals scored 52 goals his NHL rookie season in 2005-2006. Over his beginning seven seasons, he scored 339 goals - only six players in history scored more goals in their first seven seasons. Ovechkin won the Hart Trophy twice as the league's most valuable player from 2007-2009.

At age 27, the left winger's production is falling dramatically. He had a career low last year, netting 65 points in 78 games. He is continuing his downward slide in 2013 with one goal and one assist in 6 games played. He was demoted to the fourth line playing with Jay Beagle and Joe Crabb recently.

Coach Adam Oates is trying anything to spark the once dominant sniper. It is evident that Ovechkin is not happy playing for the Washington Capitals and could use a change of scenery. GM George McPhee is looking to unload Alex Ovechkin, but so far there are no teams interested in taking on the astronomical $9,538,462 cap hit until the year 2021.
