Cody Franson of the Toronto Maple Leafs is the subject of rampant trade speculation for the 2013 NHL offseason. The Leafs currently have $6 million in cap space and need to re-sign restricted free agents, Nazem Kadri and Mark Fraser as well as Cody Franson.

Franson is coming off a one year deal that paid him $1.2 million. He put up a career high of 29 points in a shortened 2012-13 season. He finished fourth overall on Leafs in regular season scoring and first among Leafs' defensemen. He tied for sixth overall in scoring among all NHL defensemen. The restricted free agent also had a strong playoff performance.

The 25 year old defenseman is demanding a contract that pays him over $4 million a season. David Clarkson's contract with a $5.25 million annual cap hit for 7 years is already handcuffing the Leafs. GM Nonis is forced to make a trade to dump salary. The Toronto Maple Leafs are shopping Cody Franson, looking for a mid-level prospect and a second round draft pick in return.
