Tyler Myers to Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings have major interest in acquiring Tyler Myers from the Buffalo Sabres. Myers has been on the chopping block since the 2014 NHL Trade Deadline. In addition, the Red Wings looked at defenseman Matt Niskanen of the Pittsburgh Penguins and came to the conclusion he is going to demand too much money as a free agent.

Myers is the better option. He is only 24 years old and locked into a contract with a cap hit of $5.5 million until 2018-2019. At 6'8" Myers is one of the biggest defensemen that could solidify the Red Wings blueline. He has top pairing potential which he displayed in his rookie year. He is looking to get back to top pairing form and a change of scenery could do him some good.

The Red Wings are offering Stephen Weiss, Johan Franzen and a second round draft pick in return for Tyler Myers.
