Stars Sign Antti Niemi To Three Year Deal

Dallas Stars signed Antti Niemi to a three-year contract. The financial terms of the contract were not released but it is believed to carry a $4.5 million average annual salary. The Stars acquired the negotiating rights for  Niemi over the weekend from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 2015 7th round pick.

Niemi who spent 5 years as the Sharks starting goaltender, is second on Shark's all-time list to Evgeni Nabokov in games played, wins, and shutouts. In 296 games played with the Sharks, he has a 163-92-35 record with a .917 save percentage, a 2.40 goals against average and 25 shutouts.

The Stars also have Kari Lehtonen under contract until the 2017-2018 season. Lehtonen has been the Stars starting goaltender for the last 5 years. Niemi and Lehtonen should provide a strong tandem in net for the Stars down the stretch.
