According to sources, Travis Hamonic of the NY Islanders demanded a trade in the 2015 off-season. Hamonic says he wants out of New York because of "family concerns in West Canada".

The 25 year old top pairing defenseman signed a seven year deal with the Islanders in the summer of 2013. He’s under contract for an average annual value of $3.86 million until 2019-20. Hamonic is a right shot and has three assists in 19 games this season.

Hamonic wants to play for the Winnipeg Jets, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames or Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers are desperate for a top pairing right defenseman, and are willing to move a core piece. They are offering Jordan Eberle for Travis Hamonic.
