Player Profile: Canucks Troy Stecher

Some fans call Troy Stecher Vancouver's best player as of late. Stecher was a free agent that Canucks signed in the summer of 2016. He spent 3 years playing for the University of North Dakota, where he played along side Canucks prospect Brock Boeser.

Stecher played only 4 games for the Utica Comets before making his debut with Vancouver. Stecher has been on the roster since November 4th and has made a huge impact to Canucks defence. He isn't big in size at only 5'10.

Quite a few Canucks players have been shocked by his play. Luca Sbsia said:

When I first saw him, I was like: is this the new guy we signed? He's pretty small - he better have some skill. Whew, he has surprised me. He's been unreal for us.

Alex Burrows had good things to say about the rookie:

He doesn't take it for granted. He knows he's got to show up every game and every practice. He listens to everything we talk about. And he competes hard. I think he's always been overlooked his entire life, I'm sure he got cut from many teams, but he overcame all those challenges.

For his size, he packs a lot of skill and a shot at the blue line that Vancouver was seeking. All of Vancouver's defence have stepped up when two veterans went down to injuries. Stecher has stood out the most, maybe because people expected the least from him.

What happens when the two veteran defencemen come back from injury. Will the Canucks make a trade to free up a spot for Stecher? Or will they send him down to Utica?
